Filmed Not Stirred 17 - The Number 23 & Rosemary's Baby

The word twenty-three has 12 characters in it, including the hyphen. 12 reversed is 21. 21 has 2 digits. 21 + 2 = 23. Wow. If you find this freaky, then you might find The Number 23 to be a riveting filmgoing experience. But as far as psychological thrillers go, Jeff and Lisa will take Rosemary's Baby any day. Also this week Jeff and Lisa discuss the Oscars, plus Trail Of The Pink Panther and Best Laid Plans.

  • Hey! Thanks for saving me $10 and letting me live two hours of my life in any other way than seeing The Number 23.

Jeff, I really liked your \"Behind The Movies\" comment on the camera direction of the film. Nice!

  • Hey thanks Py Korry, for the feedback. Regarding the "Behind The Movies" comment, are you refering to the William Fraker interview on Rosemary's Baby? Check out "Visions Of Light" if you haven't already done so, it's a great documentary!

  • Wow, Zant! My head is spinning after reading the continuity mistakes. I just like to re-watch movies for other things like camera shots or brilliant acting and editing. I almost never notice continuity errors in films I love, but if I hate a movie that\'s all I\'ll see. By the way I have much more respect for the reviews on Filmed Not Stirred when compared to other critics because Jeff and Lisa have both made movies and they love film! Acting and film making are passions for them and it shows in their commentary. Keep up the good work, it makes my commute so much better!

  • hey
    (thanks for the shoutout)

but since you mention moviemistakes, let me be the first to point out this resource i use to make a movie more enjoyable, when veiwed for the third and after veiwings, i dare the people im with to try to (point out durring the (fifth or after veiwings since there is no suprise of glarring obvoius mistakes that they see or are about to be seen....i e a digital watch on a a centurion in spartacus/gladiator)

and since you mention star trek 4
(ok kids hold onto your hat)
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) - 15 mistakes
Directed by Leonard Nimoy, starring Catherine Hicks, DeForest Kelley, George Takei, James Doohan, Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, William Shatner

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Sulu flies the helicopter and accidentally turns on the windshield wiper, look closely at the bottom of the wiper and you can see the crewman\'s finger manually moving the wiper.

Continuity: Notice the candle on the table in the Italian restaurant scene during Capt. Kirk and Dr. Gillian dialog. It changes height depending who is talking.

Continuity: The old blue Chevy pick-up that the whale biologist drives changes year models in different scenes. You can tell this by paying attention to the grille.

Continuity: In the second last scene when the bird of prey crash lands under the Golden Gate bridge, Kirk orders Spock to blow the hatch so the crew can escape. The camera is pointing up inside the ship to the outside of the ship and you can see the top of an industrial shed

Continuity: In the operating room, when Kirk uses a phaser to melt the lock, the hand he is holding the phaser in switches from shot to shot.

Factual error: When Chekov and Uhura first see USS Enterprise and then later beam aboard, the carrier shown is not USS Enterprise (a nuclear aircraft carrier), but rather USS Ranger (a conventional or oil-fired carrier). The most obvious clue is the \"island\", the huge structure that sits on the deck of the carrier. USS Enterprise has the most distinctive and unique island of all the USN carriers, being totally cube-like in appearance. The carrier in Star Trek IV has a more conventional style island. [It is true that the USS Ranger was used in lieu of the USS Enterprise for the movie. This is because the Enterprise was on deployment at the time. However, the give-away is NOT the shape of the superstructure on the island. By the time the movie was made, the Enterprise had its distinctive pagoda-like island totally rebuilt by Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1980 to a more conventional looking box structure.]

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Mr. Chekhov is being interrogated on the USS Enterprise (the aircraft carrier) after being caught on board, a studio microphone being used for the shot is visible hanging above him.

Factual error: The humpback whales are about to be returned to Alaska for release back into the wild. Dr. Gillian Taylor tells Kirk and Spock that Gracie is \"very pregnant.\" In that event, the whales should be released in Hawaii instead of Alaska. Humpbacks give birth in warm, south Pacific waters during the winter and later migrate north for summer.

Continuity: Scotty is listed in the credits as Captain Montgomery Scott. At the end when the camera pans the crew just before their pardon, Scotty wears the rank pin of a Commander. Submitted by Grumpy Scot

Visible crew/equipment: When the crew starts to evacuate the Bird of Prey from the ship\'s hatch, the sound stage wall is easily visible.

Continuity: When the \'Bounty\' materializes right above the whaling ship, it casts it into shadow. But the close-ups of the captain and navigator as they frantically turn the ship around reveal no trace of a deeper shadow on their faces and the surrounding waters; the lighting remains the same as in the scenes when they try to catch the whales.

Revealing: When Kirk sells his reading glasses, which are deemed antique in 1986, we see a close-up of them to show that one of the lenses is cracked. We can also see that the stems are made of plastic. Antique plastic, I presume. Submitted by Mark Bernhard

Factual error: In a scene with Norwegian whalehunters, the sailors speak Finnish not Norwegian. They are also using somewhat obscene words, maybe all sailors do.

Continuity: Immediately after the whales\' transponders are located in the Bering Sea, Gillian can be seen mouthing, \"How did you do that?\" without sound, then she is immediately seen and heard giving the same line from another camera angle.

Continuity: In the scene where Kirk and Spock are walking down the street after Spock has been in the tank with the whales it is clear that it is a windy day. Both of them have their hair blowing in the wind and yet as they are offered a ride in the truck and the shot leaves them for a moment their hair is suddenly fixed again.

ok now that is a small example,
    lets try something more poular..

id like to suggest in addition to all your other research that perhaps you could also maybe take a look.

on the other hand, ignore everything i have suggested, it occurs to me that, you lisa and jeff have a unique veiw on what you are reviewing, and you should keep true to yourself(if i may quote from shakespere).

please, ignore everything i have commented on, i have no right to comment on anything, im no one, and i do cherish your insight on the movies.

i lost track there, concerning the current topic

    check this out.

    The Number 23 (2007) - 4 mistakes

Plot hole: If Walter and Ag only met 13 years ago, how is their son any older than 12?

Factual error: The movie claims that 2 divided by 3 is 0.666, the number of the beast. This is incorrect in 2 ways. 2/3 is 0.666 recurring, which, if you want to round up, becomes 0.667. Also, if we are going to get really fancy, the number of the beast isn\'t even 666. Its been discovered that the bible was mistranslated and the number of the beast is in fact 616.

Plot hole: When Walter uncovers the skull in the makeshift grave, he and his son immediately leave and call 911, only to find that the skeleton is gone when they return with the police. In less than 30 minutes, the entire unarticulated skeleton (all 206 bones) has been completely dug up and removed by someone else. Submitted by raywest

Continuity: In the scene where Walter is imagining himself killing his wife, the bed sheets change from silver to red momentarily after he wakes up.

    Rosemary\'s Baby (1968) - 150 mistakes

    http://www.moviemistakes.com/film2810

Continuity: When Rosemary has decided to sneak over to the Castevet\'s, she removes the towels from the closet shelves. She then tries to shut the door by pushing the towels (on the floor) into the closet. We see that the closet door does NOT shut all the way. Rosemary goes to get a knife, when she gets back to the closet, the door is completely shut, and she must now turn the knob to open it. (Timecode available) Submitted by EmilyGrace

Factual error: The story is supposed to take place from 1965 until the baby\'s birth in June,1966. Yet, before Rosemary is even pregnant, there is a 1967 Chevrolet taxicab sitting at the curb. (Timecode available)

Continuity: Before she enters their apartment and sees her baby, Rosemary walks back to the closet that connects her apartment with the Castevet\'s and as she opens the door we see yellow linens on the top shelf. Several shots before as she takes the shelves down these yellow linens fell on her head and were not put back on the shelf. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Visible crew/equipment: When Rosemary is playing Scrabble, a crew member casts a shadow on her left. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: In the scene after learning she was pregnant, Rosemary cooks herself a \"blue\" steak (barely seared on either side), yet when placed on the table, and she commences eating, the depth of heat penetration indicates \"rare\" - much more cooked than \"blue\". (Timecode available)

Continuity: In the scene where Rosemary is having blood drawn to see if she\'s pregnant, the nurse is inserting a needle into Rosemary\'s arm. The arm appears fake as it is noticably larger than Rosemary\'s other arm, and the angle of the shoulder is off. (Timecode available)

Other: As Rosemary, Guy and the building manager walk up the steps into The Dakota, Guy accidentally calls Rosemary \"Liz\". It\'s easy to think that this might be a joke and not a mistake except for the fact that he gets her name wrong three times in the movie. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Deliberate \"mistake\": Rosemary takes out the Scrabble game, trying to figure out what the anagram means, and spills all letters onto the floor. In the next shot the title of the book \"All of Them Witches\" appears on the floor without her ever touching them. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Audio problem: At night, Guy tells Rosemary, \"I\'m gonna get an ice cream cone, you want one?\" She says yes and proceeds to roll over and cry. We hear an over-dub of the doorbell ringing, but this is wrong because Rosemary doesn\'t ring the bell until slightly before 11:00AM the next day, as we see in the next shot. One might say that it\'s Guy ringing the doorbell as he goes out for ice cream, but both overdubs sound exactly the same and this could not happen as the sound would have to come through the wall as she lies in bed. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: At dinner Minnie passes Guy a piece of cake on a plate. We see the cake when she cuts it and there\'s only white icing on top, but when Guy starts eating it there are now strawberries on top. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: In the beginning of the movie Rosemary, Guy and the building manager walk up the steps of the Dakota and all look forward as they wait in front of the elevator. In the next shot the building manager is looking in the opposite direction at Rosemary and Guy. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: Before she goes into labor Rosemary and Guy\'s alarm clock above their bed reads 9:30 throughout the scene, but when Dr. Sapirstein injects her with a sedative and she goes into labor the wrist watch that the man on the right of the screen is wearing gives another time which is 11:15. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Audio problem: As they walk together, Rosemary has a talk with Hutch about Guy\'s new part and she says, \"suddenly he\'s hot\" but it comes out as \"suddenly he\'s hopt\". The close captioning also reads \"hot\". (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: The building manager lets them into the apartment and Rosemary and Guy stand in the hallway as he closes the door behind them. In the next shot Rosemary is already in the kitchen. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Factual error: Rosemary calls Dr. Hill from a pay phone and says, \"The baby\'s due on Tuesday, you remember you told me June 28th\" (and June 28th 1966 does fall on a Tuesday). In the previous scene in Dr. Sapirstein\'s office his receptionist is making an appointment \"next week\" for a patient and that date is \"July 10th\" indicating that if Rosemary is due on June 28 th (which she says is next Tuesday) the dates do not match and it must still be the week of June20th which is at least two weeks before July 10th. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: After the birth, Dr. Sapirstein injects her twice with sedatives but when we see Rosemary\'s arm as she is recuperating there are no burses or marks that we can see where she received the shots. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: Rosemary walks into the party holding a knife and we see Guy talking to Minnie who is sitting next to a table full of gifts. Next time we see the table two shots later the gifts have been moved without anyone going near them. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: Rosemary goes to the kitchen and gets a knife and proceeds back to the closet that connects her apartment with the Castevet\'s. When she left the closet before getting the knife the shelves were stacked against the doorframe, but now as she returns the shelves are neatly stacked against the far wall. (Timecode available) Submitted by Jonny53

Continuity: In order to fool the witches Rosemary takes th
